Student Leadership

GAAQ provides opportunities for an active, dynamic student leadership culture for our Middle School and High School students, which includes the following representative groups:

The Student Executives are responsible for the chairing of GAAQ’s Student Council and are responsible for the development of the student voice, fundraising, event management, marketing, public relations and many other important functions.

Student Councils
Student Council for elementary, middle and high school provide key feedback and develop initiatives based on the student interest.  The Student Council at each level works directly with teachers and leadership to ensure students understand they are valued and listened to.  Students are at the heart of changes within our school.

Model United Nations (MUN)
Students in the Middle and High School at GAAQ participate in MUN including hosting a GAAQ MUN in 2025 for the first time in school history.  MUN provides students the opportunity to act as diplomats, debate world issues, and write resolutions. These programs build public speaking, research, and leadership skills.

Eco Club
Students lead our school community in recycling, composting and educational programs utilizing our greenhouse.  All projects are related to the United Nations Sustainability Goals and Qatar’s Vision 2030.

Youth Parliament
Youth Parliament is a small group of select students who work directly with the HOS/CEO to advise the school and learn leaderships skills.  Student leaders may be involved in encouraging digital literacy, Children for Peace or other projects that reach beyond the school.

Student Teacher Assistants (STA)
The STA Program encourages real world application of skills throughout our school and builds culture by helping our high school students understand their responsibility as leaders.  A wide variety of roles are open to STAs.  As examples, students can work in classrooms helping younger students learn to read or work as member of the marketing team to produce videos for the school’s social media pages.

Volunteering Program
We encourage student volunteers and you will see them actively helping our community.  At large scale events, student volunteers provide directions and information to visitors. They also serve as moderators for student-led programs or may be out in the community volunteering to clean up beaches or work with animal shelters.

Senior Committee
The Senior Committee works with the High School Principal and DHOS to develop activities to celebrate the Grade 12 school year - their final year at GAAQ.  Students plan with key leaders for Senior Sunrise, Senior Breakfast, Last First Day, Senior Iftar, Senior Walk, and many additional events to make their final year special.

Culture Committee
The Culture Committee is key to celebrating the diversity of our school.  Students plan events such as Solidarity with Palestine Day, International Day, Qatar National Day and more!  They ensure that our 90+ nationalities all feel welcome and are honored by contributing to the vibrant school culture.  They help fulfill our goals related to developing global citizens who are culturally competent.

National Honor Society
GAAQ is an officially recognized as a chapter.  National Honor Society is a premier organization in American high schools and middle schools that recognizes well-rounded students. It honors those who show excellence in four core values: scholarship, service, leadership, and character.  These core values directly align with our school’s core values and GEMS Education.

Pre-Med Club
Pre-Med Club offers students experiences that further their development in the field of medicine.  Students engage in unique opportunities to learn about careers in medicine and engage with practitioners in the field of medicine.

Peer Tutor Program
Sometimes students need a little assistance with an especially difficult course.  Not only are teachers available for office hours and additional help, but their peers who have successfully completed the courses may be able to offer assistance and insights that can benefit a fellow student.  Peer tutors work 1:1 with students at mutually agreed times for support and encouragement - They build a culture for learning where learning is the work, together.
